It is with great excitement that we announce our first installment of a series of Brown Bag events for the Spring 2022 semester in the Department of African American Studies at the University of Maryland!
Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Ashley Newby, will be leading the next Brown Bag event on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 12:30pm – 2pm EDT.
The title of Dr. Newby’s discussion is “Passing the Aux Cord: Co-constructing knowledge in the College Classroom through Hip-Hop”. In this event, she will be leading and engaging discussion on Hip-Hop music and culture through reviewing playlists, guiding on composition within the genre, addressing how to convey ideas uniquely, and instructing a brief community co-constructing activity around the genre’s history and culture.
