Jason Nichols is an academic and artist with a range of interests, which include black masculinities, hip-hop music and dance, bullying amongst emerging adults, black and Latino identities and relations. He is a full-time lecturer in the African American Studies department at the University of Maryland College Park and was the longtime editor-in-chief of Words Beats & Life: The Global Journal of Hip-Hop Culture, the first peer-reviewed journal of Hip-hop Studies. He co-edited La Verdad: An International Dialogue on Hip-Hop Latinidades (Ohio State University Press) and is the founder of the politically progressive social justice website, Diverse Patriots. Dr. Nichols is also an accomplished author and public intellectual.  His work has been featured in Al-Jazeera, The Guardian, Latino Rebels, The Hill, NBC News and many other prominent publications.  He makes regular appearances on local television and cable news programs.
