The Society's incredibly fulfilling volunteer and mentoring program, Saturday Freedom School, is also looking for dedicated committee members. We are currently preparing for an even bigger and better program with fresh and innovative curriculum materials and currently are seeking devoted and committed students who look to change or build on lives of young middle school students.
The Saturday Freedom School Program is designed as an academic and mentoring support program that seeks to foster the development of positive Black identities in the student participants while strengthening their academic performance. The program will occur on seven consecutive Saturdays from April to May in which middle school student participants will benefit from an enriching curriculum that incorporates mathematics, writing, reading, art, and African American Studies. The Society is looking for volunteers to help with project planning, setup, and mentoring. Additionally, the Society is in the process of raising money for Freedom School supplies.
