Undergraduate Scholarship Opportunities

African American Studies Study Abroad Scholarship Fund: This fund provides financial
support to students in African American Studies who have applied to participate in department-sponsored study abroad programs.

African American Scholars Award: This fund provides awards on behalf of the Friends of African American Studies.

Veronica Coates Scholarship Fund in the Department of African American Studies:
Established in 2018, this fund provides general scholarship support to students majoring within the Department of African American Studies.

The John B. and Ida Slaughter Fellowship: The fund, established in 1990, is named after former UMCP Chancellor John Brooks Slaughter and his wife Ida. Its purpose is to provide fellowships to talented undergraduates in the Department of African American Studies.

The Dr. Rhonda M. Williams Undergraduate Scholarship: Established in 2001 in recognition of the life and work of Dr. Rhonda M. Williams and is awarded to provide financial support to undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree in African American Studies at the University of Maryland.
